Researchers in lipid metabolism note the passing of a colleague who contributed immensely
to the emergence of our field of investigation. Richard (Dick) Havel obtained his MD and MS
degrees from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1949, and completed his residency
training in Medicine at Cornell, where he was Chief Resident in 1952–1953. He then trained
